Uradome Coast at a glance
The Uradome Coast is a rocky stretch of the San'in coast east of the Tottori Sand Dunes, known for small islands, rock arches and pines rising from clear water. Most visitors see it from the water: a sightseeing boat circles the islets in about 40 minutes. It pairs well with the dunes, which are the main reason most people come to the area, and it needs its own plan because the boats depend on season and weather.
For the dunes themselves, see the Tottori Sand Dunes overview; for the geology behind both places, see dune facts and history.

Uradome sightseeing boats
The large boat runs from 1 March to 30 November, hourly from 09:30 to 15:30, and the island circuit takes about 40 minutes. Adults pay 1,800 JPY and elementary school children 900 JPY. Individual guests do not need a reservation; buy your ticket at least 10 minutes before departure.
A small boat of about 50 minutes ran at 2,500 JPY for adults, but only from 25 April to 12 October 2026, so that season has ended for this year.
Weather cancellations
Boats can be cancelled in waves or wind. On 31 October 2026 the large boat was cancelled for exactly that reason; that is a snapshot of one day, not a closure. Check the operator's status on the morning you travel and keep a second plan, such as the dunes or the Sand Museum.
Our pick: two days along the San'in coast
This two-day bus tour follows the coast of the San'in region from Kyoto. It does not promise a stop at Uradome itself, so treat it as a coastal trip in the same region.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide. Prices are indicative starting prices in US dollars (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.
A two-day coach tour along the San'in coast
A two-day coach tour from Kyoto that includes entries, a cable car ride, a boat ride, hotel and meals. It follows the San'in coast with the dunes on the second day; the boat ride belongs to another stretch of coast, so it is not an Uradome trip.
Getting to Uradome by bus
Local buses connect the city with the boat pier. From Tottori Station the fare to the pier stop is 620 JPY, and from the Sakyu Higashiguchi stop near the dunes it is 410 JPY (timetable of 1 April 2026). Sakyu Higashiguchi on lines 32 and 33 is not the same as the Sakyu Kaikan stop at the dune entrance, so check the stop name.
Plan the boat first, then the bus back. The getting there page explains bus 39 and the airport links, and the where to stay page lists the Uradome area among the places to sleep.
San'in Kaigan Geopark
The Uradome Coast belongs to the San'in Kaigan Geopark, which joined the Global Geoparks Network in October 2010 and was extended in September 2014. The San'in Kaigan National Park covers a coastal stretch of roughly 75 km. The two are different areas: the Geopark is larger and spans parts of Kyoto, Hyogo and Tottori prefectures.
Tottori city: castle ruins and Jinpukaku
The city centre has the castle ruins on Kyushozan, mostly stone walls and foundations, with Hisamatsu Park at the foot. From the park it is about 10 minutes on foot to the Ninomaru level and about 40 minutes to the upper castle. The Jinpukaku, a historic building, has been closed for restoration since the end of 2023 for around five years. The Horin garden and an information building remain open, closed on Mondays, and the exterior has been covered since the end of September 2025, so do not plan a visit inside. Our guide to the city of Tottori and the prefecture covers the castle, the town and the rest of the region.
