Tottori Sand Dunes tours: what is on offer
Tottori Sand Dunes tours are rarely about the dunes alone. Most start in a bigger city, because the dunes lie on the Sea of Japan coast, far from Osaka and Kyoto. The tours on this page are the ones that include the dunes and show what is covered before you book: one day trip from Okayama and two tours of two days that begin in Osaka.
You do not need a tour to see the dunes. Entry costs nothing and a local bus runs from Tottori Station. A tour is worth considering if you do not want to work out connections, or if you want to combine the dunes with other stops on a longer trip.

Our picks: tours to the dunes
The Okayama trip is a single day, and both Osaka tours take two days. One bundles the hotel night with breakfast and shared transport, the other is a drive with a driver.

A day trip from Okayama and two-day tours from Osaka, each with its own start point and list of what is included. Check the meeting point before you book.
Day trip from Okayama with fruit picking
One long day by bus, with the dunes and Conan Town.
The day trip from Okayama starts at Okayama station and takes about 10 hours. The price covers the round-trip bus transport, a multilingual guide, access to the Tottori Sand Dunes, access to the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory and fruit picking. Personal expenses are extra. The Conan connection of the day is explained on our sister site: Conan Town on visit-tottori.org.
Note that the tour does not mention the Sand Museum, so do not plan on seeing it. If the museum matters to you, read the Sand Museum page and consider another way to get there. Because the day starts in Okayama, this option suits people who are already in that area.
Two-day tours from Osaka
A hotel night, and the dunes as one stop of the trip.
One two-day tour from Osaka starts at Osaka Metro Nippombashi. It includes one night in a hotel, one daily breakfast, shared transport and the sightseeing stops of the itinerary, and leaves free time at each stop. Admission fees, optional activities, lunches and dinners are not part of the price, and a single room can cost extra. The other two-day tour also includes one night with breakfast, with two guests to a room, plus a vehicle with fuel and tolls. The driver does not accompany you into the sights. Pick-up is possible within the area of the Osaka Loop Line, and outside it the meeting point is Nipponbashi Station, exit 2. Meals and optional activities at the destination are extra. Read the itinerary and the list of included items before you choose.

Bus 39 from Tottori Station is the simple route.
If you are already in Tottori, you can reach the dunes without a tour. Bus 39 leaves from bay 0 at Tottori Station and stops at the Sakyu Center, at Suna no Bijutsukan-mae and at Sakyu Kaikan. The example run in the timetable of 1 April 2026 takes 22 minutes, and the fare is 380 JPY. On Saturdays, Sundays and public days off the Kirin Jishi loop bus is another option. All routes from the airport, from Osaka and from Kyoto are explained on the getting there page.
On your own you decide how long to stay: a short walk to the top of Umanose, time at the visitor center, the Sand Museum, or the sunset in summer. Our best time to visit page helps you choose the season.
